EXAMPLES OF ACHIEVEMENTS OF SCHOLARS
Adrian Jones, The National Assembly of Wales Travel
Scholar 2004, writes:
I was recently awarded a
Florence Nightingale Foundation Scholarship to visit Nebraska and Colorado,
USA, to study how nurses prescribing is being applied in mental health
services. Experiences from this scholarship have enabled me to contextualise
the findings into a UK arena and to begin to look forward as to how nurse
prescribing will benefit our patients.
Janet
James, The Band Trust Research Scholar, 2004 writes:
The CHOPPS Project (Christchurch Obesity Prevention Programme in School)
– I am the fortunate recipient of The Band Trust Research Scholarship, provided
me with support to complete this large research study. Through an innovative
school based health education programme, focusing on reducing the consumption
of carbonated drinks, I have been able to prevent further children from
becoming overweight or obese. By reducing childhood obesity, diabetes and
other illness may be prevented in later life. The Florence Nightingale
Foundation has supported this research, which forms the basis of a new regional
school based health promotion programme. This has fulfilled my dream of
developing a implementing a novel project promoting good health and ultimately
preventing further disease.
