COMMEMORATION SERVICE 2009
WESTINSTER ABBEY
Wednesday 13 May 2009 at 6.15pm in Westminster Abbey
We are delighted to announce
that the 2009 Commemoration Service to commemorate the life and work of
Florence Nightingale will be held in Westminster Abbey at 6.15pm on
Wednesday 13 May 2009.
During the Service the
Procession of the Lamp takes place. The Lamp will be carried by a Scholar
of the Foundation and will be escorted by student nurses from Schools of
Nursing in Scotland.
Entrance to the Service is by
ticket only. These are free and available during March and April 2009.
For security reasons it is important that you apply in writing or email us

Tickets will be allocated on a
first come first served basis.

STUDENTS’ DAY 2009
Students’ Day 2009 will be held
on Wednesday 13 May 2009; nominations to attend are invited from student
nurses and midwives, through Deans, Heads of School, or Lecturers.
Full details of the Day,
together with a nomination form can be found on our website under Students’

PRESENTATION OF
CERTIFICATES TO SCHOLARS
We are delighted to announce
that the next Presentation of Certificates to Scholars Ceremony will be held
during the afternoon of Wednesday 22 October 2008, in The Girdlers’ Hall,
London.
Certificates are presented to
the Foundation’s scholars who have completed their scholarship and produced
a satisfactory report on the outcome of their studies. As part of the
event, each scholar is invited to make a short verbal presentation on the
outcome of their scholarships, highlighting benefits to patient care arising
from the scholarship experience.
Guests include family and
friends of scholars, members of the foundation, sponsors and other guests
who support the aims and activities of the Foundation.

NEW CHAIRMAN OF THE
FOUNDATION
The Foundation is pleased to
announce that Mr Bryan Sanderson CBE has been appointed as Chairman of the
Foundation.
He replaces Mrs Maureen Acland
who had retired after twenty-one years of dedicated service.
Mr Sanderson has been a
Managing Director of BP, Chairman of BUPA and Standard Chartered Bank. He
helped set up the Learning and Skills Council and was its first Chairman.
He has been heavily involved
with the Foundation in the selection and mentoring of its Leadership
Scholars, He is committed to education and professional development.

COMMEMORATION SERVICE 2010
The date for this Service has
been confirmed as Wednesday 12 May 2010 at 6.16pm in Westminster Abbey.
2010 will be the centenary of Miss Nightingale’s death and will be marked
with various events - both national and international – as remembrance of
her life and times.
